Bohemian Ballard Home
The homeowners purchased their first home in Ballard but wanted to add special touches that were meaningful to them. Having previously lived in Singapore, the couple sought to bring various international influences into their home in the form of a remodeled master bathroom and basement bathroom, as well as new furniture and décor for the rest of their home. They favored a bohemian vibe, but with a touch of modern and sophistication.
They sought cozy, light hues, from soft whites and neutrals to deeper burnt oranges and terracotta tones accompanied with satin brass and gold embellishments. While plants add a fresh, organic element to bohemian-inspired spaces, this couple took a bolder approach and instead embraced a dark-green tone through some of the finishes. The master bathroom and basement bathroom utilize the rich terracotta dark-green hues inversely from each other while each shower’s shampoo and soap niche boast the opposite accent color. Additionally, the key tiles used in each bathroom embody a hand-modeled look and more specialized feel than the average porcelain or ceramic tile.
Bohemian design tends to be a more free-spirited and often eclectic form of design with an appreciation for textures and patterns, which is apparent in the use of hexagonal shapes of various scales and color on the floor and inside the shower pans. Equally important was to showcase soft textiles and fabrics in the bedding and accent pillows in each bedroom. Still, the home balances both the playful bohemian design energy with modern elements of design. Modern touches help bring organization to free-spirited elements through simplicity and order.
Next, the couple plans to finish these spaces with key art and décor from their previous travels.
